    Very clever clue. I guessed the answer but it took me a while to figure the cryptic.

    Where did the mischief-maker say? (4)

    THIS MUST BE A MISTAKE. I see an obvious answer in the sNYT, in the northwest block, but nothing in LAT.

    Two from ST:

    Killed a bunch (4)
    This is a double definition, not a homophone.

    Driving dog has fur on the floor (6)
    This dog says “rug, rug!!”.

  2. #3 is correct. It's the homophone, #4 is the technique I purposely skipped in the intro, you're correct on that. That British accent of yours probably got in the way again, although the words are directly from Latin & Norse.
